Ideal place to go hiking, meet friends, enjoy nature and fresh air. During summer you can go swimming in this quiet river.Full review by sandra p

We rode along the water on bikes we had rented near the cruise port. There is a wide two-way bike lane on the water side separated from the car lanes. It was warm but very windy. After about a hal…Full review by TravelingAmos

Sorry, no idea. I recall seeing several membership type gyms. Perhaps a Google search and inquire if day passes are available. There are many public parks with facilities of various descriptions, though I don't specifically recall hoops. Final thought, check for a web site/blog of ex-pats. They might be a resource. Good luck

Oh it's so walkable. Where the ships dock you simply walk up and through the ciudad Vieja ( Neighborhood of the old port)). Don't mistake a wonderful luncheon custom dining here but you will miss so much if you don't stroll up the hill and find your way over and down to the other coast line, take millions of pictures, stop and talk, chat, and turn left at the waters edge and go East up the Rambla. Walk it, bike it, taxi it, there are beaches, parks, dining, skateboard parks, bumper cars, embassies, incredible architecture, statues, museums, but do it and don't stop until you reach Rodo Park. There you must get out and discover the neighborhood. Two thee hours spent. Now head back towards the port and find the Presidents Head quarters, the tomb of Artigas, the Arch, Salvo Palacio, and the center of Montevideo. Street vendors and parks with unbelievable fountains, churches, and galleries await your tour. This is the way to spend a day in the best kept secret city of Uruguay. Be prepared to return, just sayin'.

A:
We stayed in Punta Carretas. Nice upscale area, great restaurants, very safe, and near the Rambla. We stayed at The Trypp Hotel.

La Rambla ("boardwalk") goes all along Montevideo (almost) it also pass through the port. Being said so, the nicest part is in the neighbourhoods called Punta Carretas and Pocitos. It is 10 mins drive from the port. Take a cab and ask to be dropped at "Boulevar Artivas y la Rambla" You can start your walk from there. Looking at the sea, on the right you will have the port, walk to the left (east). It is just a nice walk no an exciting adventure... just a nice easy, relaxing walk...
