I'm not very interested in patriotism in general, but this was different. It transcends typical patriotism by being about the Cuban people, not just about the current or any past government. It's fro…Full review by Peter L

What is the best way to get to the castle from the cruise ships? We will be on Majesty of the Seas in March. The ship doesn't offer trips here so need to do it on our own.

Hi, It is very easy! There are these great restored cars/cabs driving right in front of the terminal. They might be able to will stop there and you can discuss your destination and price(unless a traffic cop is there). I found it to be very safe - But, always listen to your gut! They will wait for you at the castle - if you want. Give yourself plenty of time. You are basically hiring the cab, by the hour and he could take you for a wonderful ride along the waterfront after - if you have extra time, on your tab. I gave myself 1.5 hours at the castle and I felt rushed. There is also a good gift shop at the castle - rum and cigars (the prices are fair). Or, make a right out of the terminal and walk a short distance (depends on the terminal) - the one we docked at was about a 100 meter walk. There is a longer narrow parking lot, along the waterfront. There are many cabs waiting there. This is my recommendation!!! The walk is very safe. Negotiate a fair and friendly price! You can always find many more cabs, if the price does not seem fair!! Chose the car you like (it will be part of the Cuban experience)- great for some pics while you drive and after. I had three different drivers, during my time in Havana and they were friendly, informative, and safe. Research the restaurant the driver might suggest - they are getting a kickback and the place might be so so. The castle is about a 15 minute ride. You will be going to the right from the terminal, to get there. The tunnel is towards the opening of the bay. I suggest stopping by the other castle as well. If you have more time.

7 CUC is the entrance fee to La Cabaña and it allows you access to all museum rooms in the Castle, the chapel and any temporary art and arms exhibits. La Cabaña opens at 9:00 a.m. and it closes at 6:00 p.m. Please note that the Canon shot ceremony in the evening cost 14 CUC upon my last visit. La Cabaña hosts several relevant events every year like the Havana Art Biennial among some others and entrance fees may increase accordingly.
