Canada sees record population drop
Digest more
Canada is seeing its population shrink following a steep decline in the number of international students and foreign workers.
This is a stark reversal of recent population increases. The third quarter of 2023 had a population growth of 418,634 (increasing Canada’s population by one per cent). That was the highest quarterly population growth rate, by percentage, since the second quarter of 1957, when Canada gained 198,000 people, an increase of 1.2 per cent.
