WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will be lit Tuesday, marking the start of the holiday season in Washington D.C. This year’s “People’s Tree” is an 80-foot Sitka Spruce. It made the trip all the way from Alaska to take center stage on the National Mall for the holidays.

Service members and families welcomed the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree for a public viewing on Nov. 21, celebrating its journey from Alaska’s Tongass National Forest.

The tree was a gift from the San Carlos Apache Tribe and was harvested from the Point of Pines area, northeast of Globe.

A Holiday Tradition Since 1964

This District is kicking off the holiday season with the arrival of the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree. Crews will hoist the 80-foot tree up on the West Lawn f the Capitol. It's a tradition dating back 60 years.

The Idaho Capitol Christmas tree Lighting will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 3rd. The celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m. and includes entertainment and remarks from Gov. Brad Little and Idaho's First Lady,

Gov. Greg Gianforte and First Lady Susan Gianforte invite Montanans to join them for the lighting of the Montana State Capitol Christmas tree on Monday. The ceremony, scheduled for 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec.
