A 14-year-old is dead and 8 others were injured in a pair of shootings in downtown Chicago on Friday night, police said.

The shootings took place on a bustling night, with huge crowds packing downtown Chicago for the Christmas tree lighting and the first night of Christkindlmarket.

Seven people, ages 13 to 17 were shot at a downtown gathering by the Chicago Theatre. A second shooting left a man dead and another teenager in serious condition.

Chicago police said seven teens ranging in age from 13 to 17 were shot in the Loop Friday night, just steps from ABC7's studios. A separate shooting nearby left a 14-year-old dead, Mayor Johnson said.
