The National Hurricane Center began advisories Wednesday on a system it forecasts to become the season’s next tropical depression or storm. Long-range forecast models predict it will intensify into a hurricane and threaten Florida by the middle of next week.

The NHC said Wednesday it is tracking a tropical wave in the Caribbean Sea that could become a tropical depression by the end of the week.

Invest 99L is becoming better organized and is expected to develop into a tropical depression soon. After that, further strengthening is likely and the system could eventually become Tropical Storm Sara and possibly impact Florida next week.

“Next week, what will become the next named storm of the hurricane season, can impact Florida. Invest 99L is likely to become a tropical depressing in the next day or so and continue to strengthen through the end of the week,” Max Defender 8 Meteorologist Amanda Holly said.
