Omega Healthcare Investors' (NYSE:OHI) tenant, Genesis Healthcare, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the REIT that owns skilled nursing and assisted living facilities said on Thursday. Omega said in a business update that it has decided to commit $8M to fund 26.

Genesis Healthcare Inc. — an operator of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities — and its subsidiaries have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Pennsylvania-based Genesis HealthCare owns 175 nursing facilities across the country, but the company said that due to financial hardships in recovering from the pandemic and a rise in litigation, it had to file for bankruptcy, The Wall Street Journal first reported.
