The 55-member World Boxing is looking to fill the void left by the Russian-led IBA, which was stripped of recognition last year by the IOC.

World Boxing on Tuesday backed the newly-formed Asian boxing confederation to represent and promote the sport in the region, an organisation not associated with the Russian-led International Boxing Association (IBA).

A new Asian boxing confederation supported by World Boxing aims to promote the sport continent-wide. The formation follows the mass resignation of ASBC officials after failing to break from the International Boxing Association.

The World Boxing has supported the formation of the Asian Boxing body in order to get recognition from the IOC.
