AmeriCorps has long provided on-the-ground support to essential community programs in much the same way the Peace Corps does abroad.

Iowa's nonprofit sector is facing a crisis as federal cuts ordered by the Trump administration are causing mass layoffs, shuttered programs and fewer services across the state, multiple organizations tell Axios.

The City said it received notice on Friday to close out all local AmeriCorps grant programs within 14 days. Grant funding this year totaled around $920,000.
