After a tense night featuring a Democratic National Convention protest that saw dozens of arrests outside the Israeli consulate, Chicago’s top cop said Wednesday that his officers performed admirably in defending themselves from a violent group that showed up to attack police and “wreak havoc” on the city.

"We had a group that showed up, and they showed up with the intent on committing acts of violence and vandalism. That was their intent," Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling said

Multiple pro-Palestinian demonstrators were arrested after clashing with police during a protest that began outside the Israeli consulate and spilled out onto the surrounding streets on the second night of the Democratic National Convention.
