Johni Broome scored on a putback with one second left to help No. 4 Auburn rally to an 83-81 win over No. 5 Iowa State in a Maui Invitational quarterfinal.

A tale of two halves may be a cliche phrase, but sometimes it is accurate. Monday's game between No. 4 Auburn and No. 5 Iowa State was one of those times.

Iowa State led by 18 at one point against the Auburn basketball team on Monday, but the Tigers found a way to come back. Johni Broome made the biggest play of the game on the offensive end, but it all started with the defense in the second half for the Tigers.

It looked like Auburn basketball’s undefeated start was as good as done in its first game of Maui Invitational play. That was after a nearly 20-point deficit at the half, and an impressively efficient start from the fifth-ranked Iowa State Cyclones.

The Tigers rallied from an 18-point deficit to stun the Cyclones in the first round of the Maui Invitational on Monday.

Auburn was led by All-American forward/center Johni Broome who led all scorers with 30 points, nearly doubling the amount scored by anyone else and 17 rebounds. No one else recorded more than eight rebounds. This was the 62nd double-double of Broome’s college career.

Johni Broome had 30 points and 17 rebounds as No. 4 Auburn beat North Alabama 102-69. Denver Jones added 13 points and a career-high nine assists for the Tigers.

North Alabama shot 42.2% from the field, 33.3% from 3-point range and 90.9% from the free-throw line. The Lions were led in scoring by Jacari Lane who had 16 points, in rebounds by Cornelious Williams with eight and in assists by Will Soucie with three.

Iowa State saw its 18-point lead evaporate in the second half, as Auburn rallied and won with a last-second tip-in during the Maui Invitational.
