(WJW) – A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been extended until 7 a.m. Tuesday for Ashtabula and Lake counties in Ohio A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect for Cuyahoga and Geauga Counties from Sunday afternoon through Monday at 7 p.m. The difference? The lake effect warning is longer lasting and will have higher snow totals.

The NWS said Northeast Ohio will get a "brief break" from the snow Saturday night before it returns in full force Sunday through Monday morning.

The National Weather Service warned that severe winter conditions—triggered by an Arctic blast—could persist over the weekend into Monday.

The band of lake effect snow will meander north and south periodically on Saturday and Sunday. Wind direction will be the key. Lake Erie is still around 54 degrees, warmest in over 30 years on this date. This will be a LONG event with west to east bands of snow moving back and forth through early next week.

Whiteouts and accumulations of up to six feet were recorded in some places as a result of an Arctic blast that brought treacherous traffic conditions and heavy lake-effect snow to the eastern United States.
