4 check: Sabres shut down Oilers star power, win 2nd in a row, rookies Ostlund, Ellis shine, forwards feeling better
Sabres rookies Noah Ostlund and Colten Ellis were the stars of the night as Buffalo shut down Edmonton Oilers All-Stars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in a 5-1 victory Monday night at KeyBank Center.
The Edmonton Oilers are facing heavy criticism on Monday night after a disappointing 5–1 defeat to the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center. Buffalo controlled the game from start to finish, handing Edmonton its second regulation loss of the road trip.
Sabres' Modest Win Streak Shouldn't Fool You – The Pressure Is Still On Buffalo To Be A Playoff Team
The Buffalo Sabres' modest win streak has taken off some heat on them, but make no mistake -- there's going to be high-stakes pressure all season long.
The Buffalo Sabres beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 on Monday at KeyBank Center. Buffalo’s fourth line led the way: Noah Ostlund scored his second and third NHL goals, Beck Malenstyn got his first of the season and Josh Dunne collected his first career assist.
It starts with Colten Ellis who Lindy Ruff said was “In control” throughout. It took five seconds after the opening faceoff for Connor McDavid to set up Zach Hyman alone in the slot and Ellis made what I think was the biggest save of the game.
The advantage the rookies have is that they have been linemates and familiarity with each other. That may help paying off, as both Rosen and Ostlund are likely to be in Buffalo for awhile, with Zucker, Norris, and Kulich’s injury/illness situations expected to be long-term.
