Storms with lightning and hail and at least one observed tornado were moving through the upper Midwest with the potential for strong tornadoes.

A regional severe weather outbreak is on the table, with strong tornadoes and very large hail possible across parts of Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Officials in the Upper Midwest warned of possible power outages and closed some schools early as the storms loomed.
