An area of heavy rain and thunderstorms off the North Carolina and South Carolina coastlines Monday morning, designated Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 (or PTC 8 for short), is the next potential Atlantic system that may affect the continental United States.

The WXII 12 News Weather team is tracking potential tropical cyclone 8 which could impact the Carolinas. Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 has formed off the Carolina coast. It is forecast to become Tropical Storm Helene before making landfall along the South Carolina coast on Monday.

Tropical storm warnings have been issued from Edisto Beach, South Carolina northward to Ocracoke Inlet, North Carolina. The disturbance is being called Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight, a designation used by the National Hurricane Center to denote a storm that has not yet formed but is expected to soon and will bring impacts within the 48-hour window that requires alerts to be issued.
