Social media companies Meta and YouTube are facing a jury for the first time in a landmark case involving claims their platforms are too addictive.

YouTube argued on Tuesday that it was not social media and was not addictive, on the second day of opening statements in a landmark social media addiction trial.

The case is part of a flood of lawsuits filed by teenagers, schools and state attorneys general that claim social media use can lead to addiction comparable to slot machines at casinos and cigarettes.
