Hong Kong pro-democracy political party League of Social Democrats announced on Sunday it had disbanded due to immense political pressure, the latest casualty in a years-long crackdown that has already quieted much of the city’s once-vocal opposition.

The LSD has become the third major opposition party in Hong Kong to dissolve in the past two years, following the Civic Party’s disbandment in 2023 and the Democratic Party’s announcement in February that it plans to disband.

The three-day gala will culminate with the closing party in a former medieval shipyard where Lady Gaga and Elton John are expected to perform.
