Sunday, April 26, marks the 40th anniversary of the world’s worst nuclear power plant accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power station in the Soviet Union.

Lapses in upkeep and negligent operation by Vedanta and its contractor NGSL are also cited. An FIR has been registered against several individuals, including Vedanta Group chairman Anil Agarwal.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident, said Sakti Collector Amrit Vikas Topno, adding that the best possible treatment would be provided to those injured.
