On the heels of Tropical Depression Chantal, climatologists are warning that storms like it could become more common.
Chantal brought heavy, flooding rain and dangerous beach conditions to the Carolinas over the weekend, setting off life-threatening flash flooding Sunday in central parts of North Carolina that killed at least one person and prompted dozens of rescues.
Several of the town’s low-lying areas flooded as Chantal swept through, and falling trees blocked multiple roads.

(WTVD) -- Flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal caused damage across several counties in central North Carolina, including some issues with wastewater treatment facilities. It has prompted officials in some towns and cities to issue warnings to residents.
The Town of Hillsborough was hit hard by Tropical Depression Chantal Sunday night. The Town remains under a boil water advisory, and Gold Park and the Riverwalk are closed. The historic Eno River Mill building also sustained significant flooding damage.
Some neighbors used a makeshift bridge that was constructed with a ladder and a wooden plank. Their road was repaired late Tuesday.
