Race to Dubai leader Rory McIlroy opened the European finale with a sizzling 5-under 67 to join his Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton atop the leaderboard after the first day of action.

Rory McIlroy heads to the DP World Tour Championship as the heavy favourite to close out Race to Dubai glory. The biggest prize pot of the season is on offer at the DP World Tour's annual finale, with $3m out of an overall $10m fund going to the winner at the Jumeirah Golf Estates Earth Course.

The DP World Tour Championship, which starts on Thursday at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in the United Arab Emirates, isn’t lacking in familiar names. The contenders include the major champions Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Adam Scott and Shane Lowry.
