Manatee County's speed cameras hit drivers with $500K in fines
Manatee County issued around half a million dollars in fines to drivers who sped through its school zones, the Bradenton Herald reports. Why it matters: The speeding tickets come after 10,600 warnings since the school year began in August and only three weeks of enforcement.
Manatee school zone speeding cameras issue nearly $600K in fines in less than 3 weeks
Manatee County officials say RedSpeed installed its cameras at around two dozen schools at no cost to the government. However, the county sends the company $19.80 for each recorded violation. Based on the tickets issued as of Nov. 18, the company has received roughly $113,000 since ticket violations began at the beginning of November.
Close to $900,000 worth of fines issued in the last month to drivers speeding in Manatee school zones
Anyone caught going 11 miles over that speed limit in a school zone is hit with a $100 fine. $5 goes to training and retaining crossing guards. Manatee County Schools sent us this statement:
