Sports fans were hoping to see an electric Wimbledon final between Amanda Anisimova and Iga Swiatek. Instead, they watched one of the worst matches in recent memory. Anisimova won a lot of people over during her run at Wimbledon because of her incredible play and inspiring story.

The American's crushing defeat to Iga Świątek was rendered more painful by the way tennis works, but it also allows her to rebound.

Amanda Anisimova ousted the world's No. 1 female tennis player, Aryna Sabalenka, on Thursday in the Wimbledon semi-finals — shocking the sports world as the American moves onto the finals. "Amazing Amanda!" sports announcers called, as the 12th-ranked player beat Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to nab her first-ever spot on center court.

The general consensus is it is all to do with rhythm and comfort. Flavio Cobolli said at Wimbledon was "normal" for players to keep tennis balls in their shorts, adding it felt more "comfortable". Teenager Mirra Andreeva said it was "easier to keep the focus between serves" - as having a ball more readily available means the second serve is sooner.

Wimbledon started like it does every year, with 64 seeds across the men’s and women’s singles draw. As the third round begins, just 27 remain — 14 women and 13 men. It’s the fewest at a Grand Slam since the 32-seed format was first adopted in 2001.
