The Chicago area got socked with one of the worst winter storms it's seen in years, and snowfall totals piled up across the region.

One day after Chicago saw record-setting snowfall, Sunday was a much quieter and more routine day for travelers at Midway Airport as the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend nears its conclusion.

Travelers at the end of the Thanksgiving holiday on Sunday were finding hundreds of flights delayed and canceled into and out of Chicago following a winter storm in the Great Lakes region.

Parts of Chicago received up to 8 inches of snow on Saturday, making it the snowiest November day in the city’s weather history. FOX Weather Correspondent Robert Ray is on the ground in Chicago covering the winter storm slamming the Midwest.

A major weekend snowstorm is set to bring 6 to 12 inches of snow across Chicagoland, followed by dangerous cold next week.

Chicago O'Hare International Airport is the most impacted airport by far, with over 700 cancellations and over 500 delays as of Saturday morning. Flights leaving to O’Hare are delayed an average of over five hours due to snow and ice, according to the FAA.
