This article presents the results of an exploratory study comparing interval-valued scales (IVSs) and semantic differential scales (SDSs).

The semantic structure underlying numbers from 0 to 9 was examined. Each number was rated by 40 subjects (400 subjects, total) using the 20 basic scales of the semantic differential.
