The U.S. Coast Guard says a freighter is on the move after it was freed from ice that trapped it in frozen Lake Erie for days. The Manitoulin, a 663-foot Canadian vessel with 17 people on board, got stuck in the ice on Lake Erie on Wednesday after it dropped off a load of wheat in Buffalo,

The Manitoulin, a large cargo ship, first became trapped in the ice while departing Buffalo, New York on 22 January. The US Coast Guard says that there are no safety concerns for the 17 crew members on board and another ship has been tasked to assist in breaking ice around the stuck vessel.

The Coast Guard suspended ice-cutting operations for the night after making some progress and moving the ship slightly Thursday evening.
