Orlando Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. was recognized by NBA Cares Tuesday as the Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner for January.

Wendell Carter Jr. boosts the Orlando Magic’s starting lineup in his return, helping secure a 114-108 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

The Magic now know they’ll be without guard Jalen Suggs for the foreseeable future. Replacing his production will take a group effort after Orlando’s third straight loss.

Although Orlando is 14-11 in clutch games, the group is 2-3 in its last five after splitting the past two contests against the Hawks and the Grizzlies.

When Wendell Carter Jr. surprised local high school students during the holiday season with a party in downtown Orlando where they each received brand-new iPads, the Magic center called the opportunity to reward them for their efforts in the classroom a blessing.
