A federal judge has temporarily blocked a Trump administration freeze on federal grants and loans that could total trillions of dollars.

The Roman Catholic Bishop of Maine challenged the law after it was sued by dozens of adults who claimed they were abused by clergy members.

Lawmakers in the state approved the law in 2021, and it was later challenged by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.

An attorney filed the notification on behalf of PowerSchool, a software company that makes products used by thousands of schools across the country.

The order could affect programs ranging from heating assistance, housing and Medicaid to Head Start and Meals on Wheels.
