Jim Avila, an award-winning journalist who was a senior correspondent for ABC News and worked at the news outlet for 17 years, has died. He was 69.

Avila covered the O.J. Simpson trial for NBC's station in Los Angeles before a long career as a network correspondent.

The late Jim Avila had a kidney transplant in 2018, after his brother donated his organ. The veteran TV journalist suffered from advanced kidney disease and underwent surgery in April 2018.
