Santa Ana winds have died down across the greater Los Angeles area, helping firefighters to bring almost 40,000 acres of ongoing wildfires under control.

Fires across the Los Angeles area have killed at least 25 people. The Palisades and Eaton wildfires continue to burn in Southern California.

The strongest gusts are expected Tuesday morning and early afternoon, which will then be followed by a break in the evening.

Fanned by strong winds, the wildfires have killed at least 24 people and swept through 40,000 acres in the Greater Los Angeles area.

This is really just the last push of these winds here today," National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Hall said.
