Crews use sandbags to shore up levee breach near Seattle after failure prompts flood warning

PACIFIC, Wash. — A levee on the White River failed early Tuesday, prompting Level 3 "Go Now" evacuation notices near Pacific. Those living near 3rd Avenue Southeast and Butte Road need to evacuate. Many people were woken up by first responders, who were dispatched to alert residents that they needed to leave.
A levee has failed on the Green River, and people who are in low-lying areas of Kent, Renton, and Tukwila should move to higher ground immediately.

Volunteers were out bright and early Wednesday morning along the Harbor Marsh coastline in the Palo Alto Baylands, joining an effort to build a nature-based buffer designed to absorb storm surges and curb flooding amid climate change and sea-level rise that threaten shoreline communities.
