Troopers say a Manatee County school bus was stopped on 61st Avenue E. with its red lights flashing and its stop bar and signs deployed. As the bus was stopped, a 23-year-old Bradenton woman made a left turn from 5th Street E. onto 61st Avenue E.

Manatee County issued around half a million dollars in fines to drivers who sped through its school zones, the Bradenton Herald reports. Why it matters: The speeding tickets come after 10,600 warnings since the school year began in August and only three weeks of enforcement.

In the last month, Manatee County Public Safety officials say 8789 notice of violations have been issued. Of those notices, 3796 citations have been paid. That adds up to almost $900,000 in fines. Each citation is $100. That money is split between the state, the county, and the school district.

Anyone caught going 11 miles over that speed limit in a school zone is hit with a $100 fine. $5 goes to training and retaining crossing guards. Manatee County Schools sent us this statement:
