Days after violence broke out in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, killing four people and injuring several others, the police said protesters have been identified through video footage from drone cameras and CCTV footage from the area.

Tension had been brewing in Sambhal since November 19 when the mosque was first surveyed on the court's orders following a petition claiming that a Harihar temple had stood at the site.

Previously, the Yogi Adityanath government had put up posters of protesters during the anti-CAA protests in 2020. These posters were displayed across several locations, including the state capital, but were later removed following a court order.

The Uttar Pradesh government will make protesters involved in the Sambhal violence pay for damage to public property while posters of "stone pelters" will be displayed at public places, an official said on Wednesday.
