Residents of West Michigan are waking up to a fresh blanket of snow as lake-effect snow has begun to hit the region following Thanksgiving Day. According to WZZM13, snowfall estimates early in the morning indicated around 3-4 inches in several counties with expected accumulations to continue throughout the day.

The National Weather Service issued an updated winter weather advisory at 9:25 p.m. EST on Thursday in effect until Saturday at 7 a.m. EST for Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, Barry, Van Buren and Kalamazoo counties.

There's more snow on the way throughout the rest of the day and into tomorrow with lake-effect snow continually trailing into West Michigan. The heaviest snow bands today could bring an additional 3-5" by tomorrow morning.
