Man steals car, speeds off, crashes it near Complexe Desjardins. Police say after the crash, the 35-year-old man tried to steal another car before being subdued by witnesses.

More than 5,000 people were forced to leave Complexe Desjardins on Wednesday night after a fire in the ventilation system of the Baton Rouge restaurant on Ste-Catherine Street.

After pushing the car's owner away, the man sped south, with witnesses saying he reached 100 km/h before he smashed into the side of Complexe Desjardins, just one block to the south.

Carnaval des Couleurs comes to Complexe Desjardins this week. The festival runs from Oct. 7 to Oct. 9. It's an opportunity for under-represented communities to be seen, the organizers say.

Service was slowly resuming Tuesday morning at Mouvement Desjardins’ call centres and some of its ATMs after a service shutdown that was reported around 7 a.m.
