Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, has a population of nearly 57,000. Back when Trump first raised taking Greenland in 2019, it was brushed off as an outlandish suggestion. But during last year’s campaign, and since becoming president for a second term, Trump has become more insistent.

The president says the United States needs to “get” Greenland “one way or the other.” The territory has banned political contributions from overseas.
