National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, at Wednesday's White House briefing, denied the U.S. played any role or had any knowledge of a cyber attack on Hezbollah, where presumably Israel remotely detonated thousands of pagers belonging to members of the Lebanon-based Islamic group.

Hundreds electronic devices, including pagers and handheld radios, reportedly exploded around Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday in an attack widely believed to have been the work of Israel.

The pagers were from a shipment that Hezbollah operatives received in recent days, the Wall Street Journal reports. According to U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, the U.S. "was not aware of this incident in advance.
