India's army chief will review security arrangements on Friday and visit the site of a deadly attack on tourists in Indian Kashmir earlier this week, an incident that has led to a fresh crisis with long-time rival and neighbour Pakistan.

The United Nations has urged India and Pakistan to exercise "maximum restraint" after they ramped up a tit-for-tat diplomatic offensive following a deadly attack on tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Srinagar to assess the security situation following the recent terrorist attack that resulted in 26 fatalities. He received briefings on counter-terrorism efforts within the region and ceasefire violations along the Line of Control.
