Fighting between armed Sunni and Shiite groups in Pakistan has killed at least 33 people and injured 25 others, a senior police officer said on Saturday. The overnight violence was the latest to rock Kurram, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and comes days after a gun ambush killed 42 people.

At least 38 people, most of them Shiite Muslims, were killed in northwestern Pakistan on Thursday as gunmen ambushed convoys of vehicles that had been under the protection of security forces. The attack was one of the deadliest in months of sectarian violence in the Kurram region, a scenic mountainous district bordering Afghanistan.

A woman and a child were among 38 people killed after gunmen opened fire on 200 passenger vehicles travelling through a remote area of Pakistan.

Pakistani police say gunmen have opened fire on vehicles carrying Shiite Muslims in the country's restive northwest, killing at least 38 people and wounding 20 others.

Angry crowds gathered in the remote Pakistani mountain town of Parachinar on Friday, incensed by an attack on an escorted convoy of buses in which 40 Shi'ite Muslims died after being sprayed with automatic fire in an ambush.
