Police in Pennsylvania say that a gunman and a police officer were killed after shots were fired at a hospital in York County Saturday morning.

The suspect, Diogenes Archangel Ortiz, entered the hospital with handgun and zip ties Saturday morning and took several staff members hostage, state officials said.

Shapiro also met with the two York County officers who were injured in the shootout inside the UPMC Memorial Hospital ICU.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro issued a statement via X on Saturday afternoon, addressing the shooting at UPMC Memorial in York.

The officer who worked for the West York Borough Police Department was identified by the agency as Andrew Duarte.
