Royal Caribbean Group is a partner in the project, having committed to a 30-year pier usage agreement. Its cruise line brands, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea Cruises, will annually guarantee a combined revenue of 140,000 passengers beginning when the new facility opens.

West Coast cruisers notoriously have fewer options than their East Coast counterparts; the addition of another ship to the region means more choice for passengers.

The next Icon Class ship will carry the name Legend of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International said in a press release. Currently under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard, the 250,800-ton vessel will debut in the Western Mediterranean in July 2026.
