Workers at one of Ukraine's thermal power plants struggle to repair damage and keep electricity flowing as Russia continues its campaign of attacks targeting the country's power grid.

As Russian forces advance in the Donetsk region of Ukraine at the fastest rate since the early days of their wide-scale invasion, they have moved to the city of Kurakhove and are about two kilometres from one of the country's oldest thermal power plants.

Russia conducted a "massive" attack against Ukraine's energy infrastructure on Thursday, firing nearly 200 missiles and drones and leaving more than a million households without power, Ukrainian officials said.

Weeks earlier, the facility was the target of a Russian air attack that left scorch marks, shrapnel scars on the walls, and missile fragments scattered across the production floor.

Energy workers in Ukraine are repairing power grids as Russia continues its relentless drone attacks on the country’s infrastructure, causing rolling blackouts across the country over the past month.
