‘Can art be made out of attention itself? Can art be the attentive performance of simple actions?’ – Lee Mingwei Who remembers being mesmerised by Lee Mingwei's meditative performance at Tate Modern? In ‘Our Labyrinth’, two dancers move slowly across the Turbine Hall, brushing grains of rice into patterns, creating a winding labyrinth-like path. Inspired by the experience of visiting ancient temples in Myanmar, where paths leading to temples are swept by volunteers, Lee Mingwei's ‘Our Labyrinth’

One of my favorite pieces of art is "Peaceable Kingdom" by Edward Hicks (~1833). Artist Lee Mingwei was equally captivated by this work. He enlisted a group of artists to reinterpret the famous piece in their own style. The result is this collaborative effort by 42 different artists, some local, some international. It is fascinating to see how each artist interpreted the original work. This show was live at the Worcester Art Museum from Sept 13 2025 to Feb 1 2026. We'd love to see your own versi

How do we heal after horrific events and traumatic experiences? Lee Mingwei channels the pain of these experiences into art and sees art as a way to bring people together during difficult times. His work stems from both personal and world events that center loss — war, sickness, the passing of a loved one — and encourages healing through social connectivity. Experience safe spaces for healing created by Lee Mingwei in "Rituals of Care," here until July 7, and watch the full film at the link belo

And just like that, "Guernica in Sand" has been swept away 🧹 On Saturday, Lee Mingwei invited visitors to walk across "Guernica in Sand" — just as he was putting the finishing touches on it! He wanted to highlight this dual act of creation and destruction, illustrating the significance of transformation and showing that art is never truly finished. After everyone had their turn walking across the artwork, Lee Mingwei and three performers swept the sand until his version of Picasso's "Guernica"

What is it to be a human being? 💭 For Lee Mingwei’s birthday today, we’re revisiting the artist’s Tate Modern performance from 2022, Our Labyrinth. Staged in the iconic Turbine Hall, the artwork transformed the simple act of sweeping into a performance, bringing a sense of ritual into the museum. It was inspired by the artist’s experience of visiting ancient temples in Myanmar, where paths leading to temples are swept by volunteers. Did you see Lee Mingwei’s performance? 🧹 | Tate

Open today at Tate Modern! Using the building’s own history as a power station, this year’s Hyundai Commission is by South Korean artist Mire Lee. Transforming the Turbine Hall with fabric hanging sculptures and epic mechanical installations, Mire Lee has reimagined Tate Modern as a living factory. A fascinating mix of materials made of silicone and chains bring her creations to life and challenge our ideas of what is beautiful, perverse, provocative and desirable. Arttyco on Instagram: "LEE MINGWEI #leemingwei “Our Labyrinth” via @enlaredgaby Our Labyrinth is a participatory performance project by Taiwanese artist Lee Mingwei in which single dancers, dressed in floor-length sarongs and wearing ankle bells, take it in turns to sweep a mound of rice in patterns on the floor in a designated gallery space. Such forms are described by the artist as ‘a labyrinthine path of their choosing’, a statement which gives the work its title (quoted in ‘Our Labyrinth’ pr
